Don’t Think They Have Planning Permission??

The house nxt door but one to us(on a corner plot) was sold last year to what we think is a Romanian family. They have never moved in, but almost immediately builders moved in. God know what they are doing but they have been there every day from 7-8 am till about 5 ish. Front garden is a complete building site, and so is the back(the fence has gone so anyone can see). Drilling/hammering all day. Now fair enough, but Mr Smow is 99% convinced they have not got planning permission as he says they have to display a planning permission notice on the nearest lamppost. Which there isnt. Is this legal that you still have to do this? Am not planning on ringing anyone or causing trouble, I was just curious.

Just go into the council planning site online, you should be able to search for planning applications by address or postcode. Better look into it and if you then feel you need to act after all, deal with issues before they finish building.

Different councils do things differently.
My old landlord asked for permission to demolish and rebuild the house. Nothing was put on a lamp post a few houses got letter but we didn’t and neither did my immediate neighbours.
Go on the portal and see what it says

depends what they are doing sounds like they are gutting the house, that does not need permission. if they are adding an extension etc then yes they need permission.

Do they actually need planning permission? If they are not extending beyond certain limits and the building is not listed or it is not in a conservation area, they can do whatever they like inside - subject to building regs. JacktheHat is the person in the know on this.

You don't know what they are doing and yet you assume they need planning permission. is there an extension going up? Or are they maybe fitting new bathrooms, new kitchen, fitted wardrobes etc - all internal work?

They'll probably need permission for the extension but not for the rest. Have they started the extension?

Omg Red, I live outside Croydon - we have every nationality!! It’s the noise. And nxt door is stressed beyond belief about it. But if they have permission, even though they’ve been building for a year and only put in planning 4 weeks ago then that’s fine. Just hope it doesn’t go on for another year!

I know where you live I just wondered why that was the first thing you mentioned as if it mattered more than anything else.
It was just a question.
They don’t need permission to do the windows and doors and can build an ext up to 6 foot I think it is depending on your area
