muddy satin shoes

Hey, I need to get dried mud out of red satin heels. I've flaked some of it off but don't know how to go about getting rid of the rest without ruining the material. Would an old toothbrush do the trick?

I got mud in a satin top and took it to a dry cleaners, who managed to get it out.

If you don't get a solution here, why not take them to a (reputable) dry cleaners in your area and get their opinion.
