Lovely Day

Today has been another lovely day so full of sunshine and the scents of flowers just coming into bloom. Going to make a pot of tea and sit outside to enjoy the fading warmth.

Got loads of tidying up done and managed to pull up two wheel barrow loads of wild garlic. Veg plot is only about the size of an allotment but it is large enough to provide our veg. The fruit case is beginning to look as though it will be successful and as I have put the peas and sweetcorn in there as well I hope it is safe from the badgers, rabbits and rooks.

It's been quite nice here. Unfortunately, I have been stuck inside working for most of the day. But have managed a few strolls round the garden.

Last year we grew sweetcorn but only had 5 plants, which was not enough. This year I think Mr BM may have gone a little OTT. I counted 46 plants!!! So we shall largely be living on sweetcorn!

One of my freezer drawers is still chock-full of sweetcorn MrJ2 grew over the last couple of years!!

Jealous a lot lady-j as we have had horrendous rain most of the day. It has only now dried up to be a better evening but not warm enough to sit out.

lol barmaid. Fortunately it is a versatile vegetable. I always plant mine in the fruit cage as the badgers find it so tasty.

There is a badger sett in the garden and I really wish they would move.

We have several beautiful days now Giggsie but no doubt it will rain soon. Being quite near the coast (west winds and rain) we are bound to get some. We still have a hosepipe ban and have been told it will last until December.

I grow mini corn BM as I am the only one that eats it.
I have 14 tomato plants, the earliest have tomatoes on them already, 10 cucumbers plants, aubergine, peppers, kiwi, blueberries, fruit trees, strawberries, peas, beans, lettuce, hundreds of spring onions .
My pride is the elephant garlic. It looks amazing

Today was lovely & sunny. Much better than yesterday.
Haven't got a garden as such but mine is paved with plant pots.

I've got a little herb garden in largish pots leading up to the front door Sharon. Would really miss them if I didn't have the right facilities. The dozen or so fruit trees are in the field along with the poly tunnel where I tend to grow more tender plants and of course I plant things in that all the year round. It has an automatic watering system so virtually looks after itself.

Just wanted to say how well everything is doing as any surplus goes to our local food banks and a the elderly peoples home.

I'd like to think someone will do the same for me when I can no longer grow things.

I was about to drop off a load of surplus food to our local food bank when our freezer (where I had frozen lots of stuff for us) inexplicably decided to stop working. All the blanching and cooking I had done was wasted and consequently, we had no spare.

I think with 46 maize plants, there will be spare!!!!

Today was a good day Lady-j, yesterday was a great day. The sun had a rest today after blazing hot all yesterday and giving us temperatures in the high 60s with an azure sky. Got a lot done and glad to get my tomatoes out and in position. Should be able to dismantle my tall cloche this week and concentrate on the pots now they are filled. Cloudy and a bit drizzly today so used it as an excuse for a rest with the sun. Tomorrow looks sunny and warm again so I can get out and do a bit more. Off to Liverpool on Tuesday for Doppler, XRay and CT scans, so I can take some stuff to my daughter who lives there. I raise as much as possible from seed, so can take her Tomato, Courgette and Cucumber plants. Have no Broad Beans or Peas to spare. I will also take Cosmos, Sunflower, Nasturtiums and Livingstone Daisies for her. A devil to get going from seed the Mesembryanthemums are. I spent hours pricking out individual plants, but for 3 months of brilliant colour it is always worth it. Bleedin Wood Pigeons and Squirrels are our raiders.

Today has been overcast in contrast to the last three daysof which Friday was the best, hardly any wind. Haven't got a garden so am growing nothing. Some plants, not many. Have lost my favoutite fuchsia which I am gutted about.

Sounds good Togo. No cucumbers or courgettes yet but maybe. Not sure. I'm not that good with flowers so just tend to buy things in for pots and baskets. I do like growing veg though.

Sorry to hear about your fuchsia Cashier. Can you get another one to give as much pleasure?

Cucumbers and Courgettes are easy peasy Lady-j. Both survive best with good support and good airflow. Best cucumber, I find, is "Burpless" variety. They grow with stiff spikes (like cactus) on the fruits but a good gloved hand rubs them off. Just don't let the neighbours see you do it.:))

@ 18:38...foodbanks don't usually take fresh produce...I've never heard of any that do. Which is a shame, but they don't have space for refrigeration and fruit and veg would likely just be thrown out

I've lost my favourite fuchsia this year like you cashier.
Not being able to tend to it as I used to has ended in its demise.

Pasta - there is a charitable organisation local to us that will take fresh produce (I checked before I was going to take it there) they deliver hampers with fresh food to those in need and in their shops you can fill a basket of fresh fruit and veg for £4.00. They would have been quite grateful for it were it not for the blinkin freezer.
