I would give it a shove and send it in to lie in their garden. They have a cheek placing a heavy object to lean against your fence.

It's a newish fence, Atheist, and it took ages to pay it off too. The renters weren't around when we got it.

If it’s leaning against the fence on their side I can’t see there’s much you can do about it. You might own the fence but one side is in their garden so they have to share it. If it’s in your garden put it back in theirs.

I agree with Doug..... A carpet won't be likely to cause damage to your fence. If you're wprried, then talk to them about it. Pushing it down will just seem a bit rude and aggressive.

Its quite likeley that a renter wouldn't know the history and just assumed the fence was theres. I own are house and started to put a few dabs of paint on where it was looking a bit faded .... before my neighbour politely pointed out it was his fence so please could I ask next time...he was right but it just never occured to me

If it rains it'll get a lot heavier. I wouldn't be happy if a heavy object was stuck up against my fence Treacle. Don't they want it? Why is it outside anyway? Ask them nicely to move it as you are worried about it damaging the fence. Could they lean it against their house?

yes definately keepi it polite... these things can escalate if you get off on the wrong foot. They may not realise its your fence as I say

We don’t know what sort of fence it is - it might not be sturdy - but it’s possibly only there until they get time to take it to the tip. Ask them and ask them if they’d mind moving it - but ask nicely. It doesn’t do to fall out with neighbours.

The effect of the carpet leaning against the fence is absolutely nothing compared to the force on the fence when even a fairly light breeze blows. Get yourself a piece of mdf/plywood a few feet square and try to hold it steady in a wind. If you adopt an agressive attitude to new neighbours over a triviality like that you are in for a miserable time whilst they are living next door.
