My Dad has a bad back, but still wants to dig the garden!!! I am sure that I have seen or read somewhere, about a spade that has a sort of spring attachment that turns the earth with having to lift the spade manually. Does anyone out there know what I am talking about? And If you do, where can I get one? Thanks Jay. 3-09-02

I know exactly what you mean Jay, but I have never seen one 'in the flesh', only in 'Innovations' catalogues and the like. You could try going through the ads at the back of a Sunday paper. They have things like that.
My dad aquired one years ago from a friend, it had a spring loaded pedal which stuck out behind at the top of the spade plate so when it was pushed into the ground you just put you're foot on the pedal and pulled the spade handle back to move the soil. I'd never seen one before or since so this may have been a gadget thirty or forty years ago.
there was a spade made by wolf called the wolf terex i had one years ago and could dig 300 sqr yd plot in a day //the spade was all metal painted green i've been looking for 1 myself but i dont think they are made now
