I am very good on recycling and freecycling unwanted items but I seem to be left with a lot of food waste, which I have now been offered several solutions for. I know teabags can be composted but it there something else I could do with them?

I do the usual - refrigerate them and use them for puffy or sore eyes!
My Mum used to save all her used teabags, cut them open and dig the tea into her soil which was quite heavy clay. I presume this is supposed to help the soil, either that or she was wasting her time!
If you have a garden and grow roses therein, tea leaves are supposed to be good for them--a friend of ours (who grew beautiful roses) always emptied the teapot around the base of the plant (after using loose tea),I guess you could do as much good by cutting open the tea-bag.Your Mum probably knew about that theory spudqueen.
Tea leaves around your roses or camellias will pay dividends!
Try looking at http://www.tbagdesigns.co.za/ they recycle tea bags and make poducts
Off topic slightly - Goddessmum I LOVE that teabag site!
I grow chillis and red peppers in large pots in the garden which I stand in drip trays. I save my tea bags to put in the bottom of the flower pots to save all the compost leaching through the holes in the bottom of the pots and they form a very effective filter.
I use them on my eyes but I've also used then to age card when I've been card making.
