If this actually comes about it could be the game changer, certainly if the price was ok I'd be up for it.

700+ miles on a 10 min charge, longer battery life, lower fire risk and if your into it 25% less carbon than a current EV.  And of course no deprived kids forced to mine rare metals.

Almost there ? It probably has it's own issues. I wouldn't be an early adopter. In any case, where are the extra nuclear power stations that are needed to provide the fuel ?

Well yes OG, but thats down to Governments and all parties seem to be enthralled to 'green' leccy that cant provide.

But at least the car manufacturers are doing their bit.

Car manufacturers are hoping to optimise their profits, beat their competitors.  They are not 'doing their bit' because they care about the environment

Since when are EVs a fire risk? They are much less likely to catch fire than an ICE vehicle.

Most people rarely make 700 mile journeys . If they do it will be once or twice a year. The range between refuelling isn't an issue for most people as their driving are small trips to work, school runs or shopping.

Exactly, Gromit. My EV only has a 145 mile range and the only time I've had to charge, away from home, was going to a wedding in Chester (luckily the hotel had EV charging points). People see the range but don't actually sit down and work out when the last time they did over the range of newer EVs (roughly around 240 miles on a full charge now).

Do the chicks appear back at a fully charged milk float and proceed to busy themselves with hair, makeup, Pringles etc before moving off like they do in petrol stations?

There is a slight problem with Toyota’s claim.

Typically EVs can manage around 4 miles per kWh charge, therefore with the claimed 745 mile range, the car battery is receiving around 190kWh in 10 minutes.

If we assume they are using 3 phase mains power source to charge the battery, that works out at around 1,000 amps per phase for the 10 minutes.

In Toyota’s EV future, everyone is going to have their own substation in their back garden.

I am sure you have been told before but maybe ask the Fire Brigade how easy they are to put out?

Plus the stats you quote include badly maintained old cars vs new well maintained ones (No one is going to mistread an EV with the cost they are).

Folk seem to be unaware of the type of fire that occurs in EVs compared to ICEs. The former is much more problematic. And the possibility of it after an accident causes great issues.

No Gromit, not the same as it can easily be extinguished by the Fire brigade.

Contrary to popular belief, propogated by Holywood, cars dont tend to explode on impact.

Anyhow, its irrelevant for the point of this post as one of the positives of this 'new' battery is that is wont have the problem so all will be good.
