I am deciding what to put up at my windows for privacy but also would like low maintenance cleaning, not a lover of net curtains, does anyone have any other ideas

One-way reflective film.  Google it for examples like this

Put vertical blinds up (not horizontal blinds: they require regular dusting, whereas vertical blinds don't hold the dust).

Yes, go with vertical blinds

I really don't like vertical blinds, I feel they're very 80s or something.
Personally I prefer the look of venitian blinds and I have a solution to them being dusted...don't! I also feel they give better privacy.

How about floaty voiles instead of net curtains, they let lots of light through and you can see out but have a high level of privacy. When they get grubby, fold them up, swish them in slightly warm water,  hang them on the line or clothes airer and they're dry in no time.
