Toilet Cistern Not Filling Up After Flushing

My toilet cistern fills up a bit after flushing but then continues to make "filling up" noises about every 10 minutes.  Is there anything I can do to fix it?

You probably need to replace the fill valve.  It's a fairly simple task but I'll leave it for you to search YouTube to find one that looks like the one inside your own cistern.

Before you do anything, can you explain a bit more? Are you able to lift the cistern lid and see if the water level is high enough? Is the float (usually a plastic ball or other shape) actually floating on the water, or has it sunk below the water?

With luck builder or some other knowledgable person will come along and give you good advice.

Worth lifting the cistern lid to see if you can spot anything.

Yes, probably the inlet valve.

Should be one like this (old type)... brass valve and plastic float

Not expensive, and very easy to replace.

Difficult from your description, if the cistern is not full then as above but it is full could be that the outlet to the pan is leaking, of in a hard water area its often some lime stuck.

What would happen is the cistern fills then it slowly leaks out until the ballcock opens enough to start filling again. Often this happens slowly and you dont hear much noise but if that valve too has lime it often jolts on.

To test for the outlet valve leaking but a bit of lavvy paper at the top back of the pan.  It should stay there but if there is a leak it will be washed into the water at the bottom.
