I decided to grow them as in the above link. They're thriving, although cutting 299 holes in the fabric was a ball-ache 😁

It'll be worth it when you have nice fresh onions

It'll also cut down on the ball-ache of weeding.

I'm also using the same method for growing squashes and leeks.
