removing superglue
9 Answers
Does anyone have any tips on how to remove superglue (specifically 'loctite') from a worktop? The work top is shiny so abrasives are not an option.

Before you try any chemical or abrasive methods, try keeping the spilt glue very wet (perhaps by keeping it covered with a soaking wet cloth) for a day op two. I managed to get some out of a rugby shirt by keeping it wet. It took a while, but did not damage the shirt.
Be careful with superglue solvents on plastic surfaces, they contain Toluene and Hexanes which might attack the surface, if you can obtain this then test it on a ''out of the way'' place on the work top to check that it will not damage it,
Otherwise If it is a flat and not a marbled or matt surface then I would go with the scraper idea (I have used a stanley knife blade without the handle and just hold it gently in your fingers) and go very very SLOWLY, don't try to remove it all in one go. When you have it all off there may be a mark on the surface, use metal polish on a good cloth and polish it out and eventually you should not be able to see the mark unless you know where to look.
If you have a peice of old shiny plastic similar to the work top maybe you can put a drop of superglue on it and practice taking it off first.
