Photo Fading

Hi I have a photograph that is fading, due to being on the windowsill the sun has been on it hence the fading. Anyone know anywhere that I can get it restored. If I print it off on the pc I think it will come out the same (faded). cheers

if you have the neg get a reprint, but i would put it in computer, you can redress the fading using the effects pallette and contrast - play around with hue etc until it looks right again

you can do it yourself if you have Photoshop or some similar programme. Otherwise, there are photo restorers who can do it for you. (Try googling photo restorers or something like that.) If you have the neg, then as joko says just get a reprint.

Where do you live? I know the perfect place as they did one for me - unfortunately it's in Penzance in Cornwall! Most photographic shops can do it, but I'd ask friends and family for recommendations in your area, as some are better than others.

If you've got a good quality scanner and a good quality printer then it's fairly easy to restore the picture yourself. Photoshop is the best program for this but it's pricey and you need quite a bit of experience to get the best from it. Serif's Photo Plus 6 is free and fairly easy to use. Get it here:

As has been said, almost any photo lab will be able to restore the picture for you but please note that their services don't come cheap (�15 for a fairly simple restoration job - which takes 5 minutes in Photoshop - is quite a common figure).

If you don't want to pay these sort of prices and you don't like the idea of doing the restoration yourself then (assuming you've got a decent scanner) just post again and I'll tell you how to contact me so that I can run it through Photoshop for you.

Just a last thought: Scanners and printers normally come with photo-manipulation software so perhaps you've got something suitable already?

to save Chris putting his address on AB, you could scan the picture in, put it up on Image Shack or some similar picture hosting site, and just give him the URL.
