Squeaky Floorboards

Hi all, I have a big squeaky floorboard problem (chipboard panels) upstairs and have read some great responses to similar questions. My worry is replacing the carpet after I've done the work. Shall I even bother attempting to put it back down or would the carpet company come back purely to fit it back securely?

You can rent the equipment neccessary to restretch the carpet, but it's more of an art than a science. If it's a patterned carpet, you're likely not to get it evenly stretched and it will appear wavy in the pattern. Additionally, the frustration level at trying to learn a new skill, such as carpet laying, can quickly reach the boiling point. You'd need to compare the obvious downside(s) to the additional cost of having it professionaly replaced...

If you lift only small sections of the carpet from a corner inwards at a time and leave the majority of it in place then it is often quite easy to get it back in place, however if you remove all of it then you will want to get the pros in to put it back.
