Emigrating?

I'm thinking of leaving the UK to live out my few remaining years in peace & tranquility.

Having looked at various countries I believe that Uruguay might fit the bill - low cost of living, low crime rate, decent climate, good healthcare, good beaches, welcoming for financially independent "oldies" & (importantly) well away from the troubles that seem to beset the northern hemisphere.

Has anyone here lived there / any other suggestions?

I've been there on holiday and loved it. There was a lot of building going on as it seems to be becoming a big holiday destination. The people were friendly, great paella, good wine. Worth looking at.

Articles in the T, imes on this this week - I moved to thailand never regretted it - which I passed by

tortured analogy coming up:

I was getting Saturday tmt at the local cancer hospital and in popped a middle to high administrator who said to the clinic consultant " Fank u fank u fank u " Blimey I thought wht is happening here. Not a trace of

" work harder damn you: my bonus depends on it"

Then a lovely 85 yr old came out of " treatment" - and said hellow to the nurse. Nurse  " oh you  are a lovely old man. mwah mwah mwah"

and HE said " I was in Malaga at 0900"

The dear old man's daughter was the admin and as soon as a diagnosis of blood cancer was made, repatriated him quicko quicko. Good huh? Non contrib to the NHS for 20 y and as  soon as an expensive diagnosis comes up - - back he comes!

another tortured analogy

I looked at my bag of retuximab ( I amback on it) and said " £20k per bag" - and the nurse said - even private it is only around £10k.

any cap ? I asked

yes she said. after six bags, you say - "your insurance wont pay for any more. It has been capped - if you  want more retux (*) you will  have to pay" - bring in a cheque for 10k next cycle or no retuxy!

eek I said

(*) increases survival by 20% - so it something has a mortality of 70% then with retux added in, it is 50% - wow

PP  I don't blame him at all

Because I live in Thailand my UK state pension will remain the same as the day I applied for it. No inflationary increase every year. I paid the same NI as everyone else and I am not being a drain on the NHS. I have to pay for my medical treatment here and with the real value of my pension reducing every year, I will probably not be able to afford expensive medical treatment in the future. Therefore it would essentially be enforced repatriation by the government's pension policy!

I was at a party and someone was talking Spanith to a dog ( yes a darg) and I said - oo what is going on?

"Oh that is my boss" - the one in Ecuador, colombia ( think some where s america) 

and the darg I asked

oh his boss was kidnapped and ransomed for $200 000, and the whole company has repatriatated. The only problem is that he e doesnt speak English ! ( mining co: mucho mucho pesos)

I have failed R-CHOP, RGCVP  ( guess what the R stands for?) CAR-T and radiotherapy  - that is a lot ! difficult to keep alive with that lot! - and will  start of REFRACT (wed)

at another party - some old bagga stumbled up with Ca stomach ( Paclit and carboplatin) and said - well  what are your results?  - - his wife hissed, "shut  up, its a trial!"

Davebro - Uruguay is similar to Thailand in the fact that your state pension will remain at the level it is as soon as you emigrate. All future inflationary increases that you get in the UK will no longer apply. My  company pension increases obviously but the State pension doesn't. Would this be a factor?

I once read that the quality of life in Uruguay was quite good. I believe it's only a short boat crossing from Montevideo to Buenos Aires. Some of those liberated from Nazi death camps resettled there. 

Peru is another place I would consider.
