I have a 1 bedroom flat in West London and am looking to install gas central heating. How much will it cost to install 6 radiators and a boiler? We don't have any central heating at the moment.

im not sure how much but whatever you do dont go to british gas because they charge a fortune. get 3 quotes from corgi registered central heating installers and go for the middle price.

if british gas offer a free quote service then it is worth asking them as you can use there price as a guide to make sure you dont get anyone charging you silly money as some unscrupulous firms do

It is not always necessary to accept the middle quote as often installers price high if they have lots of work. Make sure that the installer uses all components that are part 'L' of the building regulations approved.

Thanks for your replies. I've had British Gas in today to give me a quote. They have quoted 4000 for combination boiler and 4 radiators. Is that way over the top?

Thanks, coopermiss

All of the reviews I have read suggest that British Gas charge way over the top. I have just had a quote from a local installer for a combi boiler, removing all of the old system and eleven radiators, two of which are fancy long thin ones and a chrome towel rail in the bathroom. This price also includes fitting of a new compatible shower (but not the cost of the shower - about 100). The price they gave me was 4500 but I am still uncertain as to whether this is a fair price. Compared with British Gas it would seem so, we were going to have Northern Gas to quote, but I have read some rather negative reviews about them so don't really know what to do now. We could get quotes from some other local installers but I don't know any of them. At least the one we have had the quote from has done some (minor) work for us and for our next door neighbours and have been pleased with the speed with which they respond and the quality of the work. They also have a joiner working with them who will remove and relay the laminate floor included in the price.

Anyone out there have any thoughts about all this and what they would do in our shoes. We live in the north of england, this does seem to have an effect on prices.
I have only just noticed that this is an old thread. Probably completely out of date then
