Hi all this is basically 2 questions in one...

What sort of fixings do I use to fix the rail to the wall - i know i need cavity wall ones but how deep should they go? would i need different ones as they go through tiles too?

Also when drilling through tiles is it ok to drill through the gap between the tiles ( where the grout is) or should i go for directly through the centre of a tile?

Firstly if the tiles are good thick tiles (1/4" to 3/8") you should not need special cavity fixings,if they are of the cheap thin variety then you probably will. Toggle bolts or plastic rawlplugs with toggles will do the job.

Yes you can drill through the joints but extra care is required because the drill bit can jam between the two hard edges causing damage to tiles that may not be hidden by the towel rail, Use a tile drill bit and do not have drill on hammer. It is safer to drill through centre of tile or at least not too close to the edge.
