Brown marks on tee shirts

Recently several of my sons' tee shirts have been ruined by brown patches on them after washing. I use a non biological brand in tablet form. The tee shirts are not particularly cheap ones. Does anyone have any idea what is causing it?. The marks tend to be on the back of the shirts and I'm fairly certain aren't there when they go in the wash. Is it possible tumble drying can cause it. Other clothes seems to be OK.
