... you only need to clean if its really clogged up. is there a tree nearby that could be dropping stuff into the pond? you may also be feeding them too much. about once every 3-4 days should be fine and then even only a sprinkle
I have a large, 7' long multibay filter on my large koi pond and that gets clogged up. You might have to think about up grading to a bigger filter or just have to put up with it. A weekly clean really isn't that bad....i sometimes have to do mine daily in the summer.
joko....that feeding advice is not good m8. At this time of year, don't feed at all whilst the water temperature remains below around 7 deg C. After that, feed a little bit all the time they will eat it. Start increasing feed as the weather warms up untill you're feeding every day. When the water is at 15-20 deg C, i can feed my fish half a dozen times a day !!!!....just make sure they eat it and none gets left to rot.
Don't worry about fish not eating now.....i've fed my koi twice since November.
ahh, yes i was thinking about my indoor heated tank. sorry.
I have seen people feed fish and throw half a tin of food in for a few little fish! daily!
perhaps holden should look up some estimates of how much is needed based of on amount and size of fish.
i find a small pinch about once a week is fine for my fish - they are from 5cm to 10cm
