i have a tree fern. should I prune the fronds off it and when?

I find its best to leave the fronds on my tree fern until they have died completely,as they do help to give a little frost protection.


I cut mine off after any danger of frosts and save them, and scrunch them into a ball and push them down into the crowns as frost protection before in comming winter, as its the crowns that are most vulnerable to frost damage. Hope this helps..

ps You can achieve the same effect by using a ball of hay for protection, if you have no dead fronds to hand..
