packadarm, First of all, ensure that the boiler is in heating mode.You need to adjust the " lockshield " valve on the side of each radiator. ( this is the one that you can't normally turn off because it has a smooth plastic cover over it ). Then, ensure that the normal valve is fully open. Give the lockshield valve cover a good sharp tug upwards ot remove .The lockshield valve is then adjusted up or down by using a suitable small spanner until a temperature difference of 11 degrees C is attained between the flow and return pipes. This needs to be done to every radiator ( unless one of the radiators is designed to be a by-pass , this one would stay fully open )
