Old gardeners used to leave lots of lemon and orange rind around the area. I believe you can also buy sprays from pet shops to stop cats clawing at furniture, it's the same idea, some sort of citric acid, diluted of course. Cats just seem to dislike anything citrous, and I'm sureyou don't really want to kill the cat.
Well as cats are just about as close to vermin as you can get without actualy being vermin, I'd suggest poisoning!
I jest (about the second bit, not the first bit - horrible creatures), and I sympathise as well as my front garden appears to be the local crap hole for my neighbours rat, and having seen my (18 months old at the time) daughter pick up a fresh turd left by one of this rat, I swear had I been quick enough I'd've kicked it as far and as hard as I could - and I can still get a rugby ball through the uprights from halfway!!!
I've started throwing them over next door, let them deal with their bloody cat's turds - I don't let my labs crap all over their garden.
Grrrrrr - this really annoys me.
