Those large fancy candles (some of them with more than one wick) how are you supposed to keep them alight? I find that despight following the instructions on the wrapper after a couple of housr burning so much way has melted and dropped into the candle that it smothers the wick and puts the candle out! The flame (when it is alight) also disapears down into the hollow in the middle making it difficult to light. other than buying thinner candles, cutting away the wax around the outside or putting the elctric light on (!) is there anything I can do?

When this happened to me, I took a piece of paper towel and folded it several times lengthways. Then I tipped the candle slightly and dipped it down into the melted wax until it soaked up enough to stop the problem. Take care when removing the soaked towel that you don't drip wax on yourself or the table. When lighting these candles, try tipping the candle 45 - 90 degrees first, so the flame isn't licking up your fingers. Even better, buy some BBQ matches which are about 3 or 4 times longer than the usual ones. Hope this helps.
