Passion flower

I have a passion flower which has become very leggy as it was in a pot for a while before we moved. I have just re-planted it, but don't know whether to prune it or not. If so, by how much and is now a good time? Thanks

I believe the best time for pruning passion flowers is after they have flowered, but as yours has been in a pot and grown a little leggy, I think I'd be tempted to prune it fairly hard back now to give the roots a chance to recover in their new environment, rather than let the plant use up all its energy on sprouting too many new shoots. This is where we really need Andyjevs for his expert knowledge. Where are you Andy ???????

Hopefully you have chosen a sunny aspect for your passion flower. It can be pruned back hard in the spring, almost to ground level, but beware of frosts which can severely damage it.

A good mulch should help and maybe some bracken or straw around the base will help to shield it from surprise frosts. Hopefully it will send up new shoots. Good Luck.

I cut mine back to non existance last year because I wanted to get rid of it but it came back with more flowers and fruits than ever. I have just cut mine back this year to about 10 inches. If it dies, it dies but somehow I don't think it will.
