should the gas board have removed my back boiler when they put in my baxi boiler? they removed the cisterns and left the back boiler behind the fire along with copper piping which is now of no use. how do i stand in getting them to remove it without getting a bill?

It depends on what you agreed to pay for. Normally you would expect them to remove it in the price but there are no hard and fast rules about it. Asked them if they have forgotten something.

No.

When I had central heating installed they only removed it because I asked them too.

If British Gas carried out the work, you should have received a detailed quote re - workto be done. Check if there is a section that states " all redundant materials to be removed and cleared from premises ".

It would be good practice to remove the redundant backboiler, as any remaining water in the boiler / ciculation pipes would become stagnant, and could possibly create a smell in the area where circ pipes have been disconnected. More importantly, on a safety aspect, it is possible that someone could cap off the circulation pipes. If ,say some one else moves into your premises at a later date, and they decide to remove the gas fire and have a coal fire, the boiler would then explode. ( sorry to be a doom and gloom merchant )

If the property is old, maybe the surveyor could have suggested lining the flue, complete with fire box, or standard opening with sealing plate. This would mean that the boiler would have to be removed.

Hope this helps.
