My 5 year old toddler sweats alot at night. His hair is so wet with sweat taht we have to change the pillow. He only has a light duvet on. It is not just the summer months when you expect him to be warmer, but even in the winter. His room is not too hot. he is not ill and doesn't have a temperature. Is this normal

Our son (2yrs) has just stated this, seems to be lined to bad dreams as he has been waking a few times in the late eve crying and dissorientated, Calms when we turn the light on.

My son does this too - he has been really sweaty when sleeping since birth (he's 3 now) - his hair is always soaking wet when he wakes up & he usually has to have a bath in the mornings now.

His sweatiness doesn't seem to be linked to anything else - its the same whether he sleeps all night in bed or has a quick nap through the day on the setee - summer or winter!!

He has always hated being covered up with blankets or wearing any PJ's so now I tend to just let him sleep in vest/t-shirt and underpants with a light quilt as his bedroom is fairly warm.

Maybe its hereditary, according to my mum, I was exactly the same!!

A xXx

my neice is the same. from a baby she never like covers. she lives in norway and it can be really cold there. the instant you put the covers on her, she wakes up and threw it off. she is now one and a half. and she perspires a lot, head and pillow is always wet..

With sweaty kids - as people have said, it is nothing to worry about. But there can be side effects of over sweating, you just need to be careful they drink enough, not just water but things like squash and juice, because we lose salts when we sweat.

My cousin has cystic fibrosis and one of the side effects of this is REALLY salty sweat - she smells like the sea on a hot day! Her mum has to make sure that in the summer she always has salt on her food to replace what she loses.

Of course for 'normal' kids extra salt like this is not necessary, but make sure they're well hydrated throughout the day.

just out of interest did you mean to say 5 year old toddler? or was it a finger slip?
hiya,i got a 11 week old son and he has been sweating since birth,at 1st i thought it was a fever as i know it can cause cot death so i took him 2 hospital,as a 1st time mum i panicked, they done test and told me he is 100%fine and he was just a hot baby.now my boy sleeps in just a vest and nappy at nite(still sweats)but i guesse he takes afta his dad....so no need to worry
