I have a Potterton Combi boiler and every now and then nothing happens when I turn the boiler to constant. When it has happened before it has fixed itself somehow but this time it's been a few days. The boiler starts up when I put the hot water on but the heating just won't come on at all. Anyone ever had this?

I had this problem but the other way round, Heating but no hot water, it was a valve inside the boiler that switched the flow (or something?!?) had it fixed for a bit then had to get a new boiler.

If you have thermostats on your rads try turning them all up to max and see if that does owt.

shells, It is probably the diverter valve that is malfunctioning. You will need the services of a qualified heating engineer to confirm or otherwise.

Hope this helps.

That's the valve pilotlight, thank's it's been bugging me since I last posted.
I agree that the valve is by far the most likely cause. Beware however that tradesmen of all kinds can be very sniffy about their particular jargon (has to do with the British obsession of exclusivity). A plumber will probably refer to it as a zone valve.
Hi there , I have had problems with our potterton combi, about 3 years ago it went completely. I rang british gas homeservice explained the problem and they let me join their 3 * scheme straightaway and sent out an engineer the next day. we have called them out several times over the last 3 years and I have been very impressed with them; they definitely have saved me a forune. I think the 3 * cover costs about 16 a month, money very well spent in my view. Hope this helps ,good luck
