Oil Fired Heating

Does anybody know anything about oil fired central heating? ie, costs, advantages/disadvantages etc

Cost is high at the moment. Unsightly Oil tank unless you can bury it. Need to have a watchman fitted so that you don't run out. I have run out 3 times in the last eight years, always on a friday and always when the weather is really bad, froze for 3days. If I had a smaller house I would consider an electric boiler, not economy 7, it works just like any other boiler except it does not need any vent or chimney. It works like a large shower unit feeding the radiators and cylinder for stored hot water.

Works the same as gas central heating, different boiler of course, cheaper than LPG and slightly dearer than natural gas. Modern oil tanks are expensive. Safer than gas and the only option where gas is not available.

Electric boiler heating is four times as expensive unless you get a good deal in Scotland where they have hydropower. If you run out of oil it's your own fault, keep it topped up.

I live in a gas area, but have oil heating and I wouldn't change. Pricewise it is definitely cheaper than LPG and only slightly more expensive than 'natural' gas.

Plus you only pay for the fuel you use i.e. no standing charges; you've a store of fuel on your premises; you've a choice of supplier; and oil boilers tend to be more efficient than either 'natural' gas or LPG models.
