stained kitchen sink

we have moved into a property with a white inset kitchen sink but it is badly stained around the plughole. the stains appear to be ingrained. I have tried cream cleaners, bleach and all sorts of products but to no avail. Can anyone suggest how I can remove them?

how about spirit of salt from the chemist but you have to ask for it..if you do get some use it with the windows open and dont breath it in,its quite lethal but it does remove every stain i know of....let us know how you get on
