Flat Flooded Again!

Hello everyone, I wonder if you can help me. I have a one bedroom council flat in North London. Since we moved in six years ago, the bloke above us has flooded us six times. The first time (Just a few weeks after we moved in) was extremely bad and we had to claim on his insurance. He said it would not happen again, however it has to various degrees. Two months ago we had to call in the council because water was dripping from one of our kitchen lights. That light is still out of operation as the council havent been back to connect it up again. Last night we had to call in the council again as water was dripping from a light in the hall. The guy upstairs is a bit odd and he can be malicious. I have a feeling he may may be doing it on purpose, though I cant prove it. A few weeks ago when I was at work, my wife opened the door to him and he strolled in uninvited and started dancing round the living room. I should of reported it to the council but I didnt. However, after last night I have had enough. Surely there must be something legal we can do to safegaurd our home. We are living in fear that we will come home one day and find the whole flat waterlogged like the first time. We are not insured as I cannot afford it. Please help!

Hi magic, you should not have to put up with that,why don't you write to the head of the housing department outlining all that has happened,don't you have a housing officer in charge of the flats?, you should also complain about the lights not being repaired, if you don't get any sense contact a local councillor or your MP, I would threaten the council with the MP bit anyway, don't let this burk ruin your lives, Good luck,Ray

I agree with raysparx - you should write to your head of housing or get in touch with the housing officer for your block of flats. You shouldn't have to put up with a situation like that - it must be very stressful.

Not much help maybe, but I also wanted to say that as this must be costing you quite a lot of money anyway if you are continually being flooded you should really try and get some insurance cover. My local council does low cost insurance specially for council tenants - you should see if your local council offers a similar scheme.

I hope you get the situation sorted soon.

Thank you both very much, I will contact the housing officer and make a complaint on my next day off work. I will also look into low-cost council insurance.
