Water pipes behind walls

We have a 60's build semi detached bungalow and the water pipes are on the outside of the wall which I'm told is quite typical.

They are a bit unsightly however (as well as a little dangerous when the heating is on and hence the water is hot making the pipes themselves hot) and we are considering getting them dug into the walls which, BTW, are solid brick. Has anyone had this done and if so, how much did it cost and how much disruption did it cause?

I know we could box them in but dependant on the cost, removing them from sight completely would probably be preferred.

Hi,atol, there is no need to box them in,if they are 15mm pipes, call into a heating company and tell them you want some trunking to cover the central heating pipes,it is a white plastic trunking that clipes over the pipes,it is only the ones coming down the walls that are noticed, might be worth thinking about, good luck,Ray

having them concealed would be pretty costly,and once the trunking is up you can paint it or wallpaper over it.
