I like to think I try and be environmentally responsible....so what can i do with used light bulbs other than put them in the normal household waste. I have checked my local council's website but there is nothing about this on there.

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.As bulbs contain metal they are not suitable for glass recycling bins, so its normal waste for them.
Flourescent tubes contain mercury and this can be recycled - there are some companies in parts of the UK that will take them, but not 1 at a time - they are set up to service the wholesale replacement re-lamping in offices etc.
Make sure you replace ordinary bulbs with energy saving ones when you do change them - that saves money, reduces future landfill and saves energy requirements.
