Japanese maple cuttings?

I have a gorgeous big Japanese Maple Tree in my garden. My neighbour likes it and has asked if he can have a cutting. Any ideas on how to tackle this?

It is possible to take japanese maples from cuttings but it is extremely difficult. Cuttings need to be very soft, have undersoil heating and mist. A strike rate of around 2% is normal so if you take 100 cuttings, expect 2 to make it.

Best bet is to grow some from seed then graft a piece of yours onto the seedling.

Please make sure you know exactly what it is called botanically and its final height and spread. Maples are in the Acer family (sycamores) and some can grow to about 50 feet, Japanese or not,
