Any tips on safeguarding our house?

Someone has tried (Twice now!) to break into our house, once in broad daylight and once at 11.30 at night. We have an intruder alarm but obviously that doesn't deter them! We have security lights too! We have a very rangey and open garden which we can't really do anything about. The back door is very secluded and not overlooked and this is where they have tried to get in. If you have any suggestions of how I can protect the house I would be really grateful. you should try looking at getting cctv cameras installed outside covering the dorr area and garden. you dont have to spend out loads of money doing this as many places sell diferents types of cctv cameras, i would try www.maplins.co.uk. and put up a notice which you can also buy saying you have cctv installed, normally this will deter them, or you need to look at full security systems which may run into the hundres of pounds. personally i would look about inclosing the garden if possible and cctv.

Get a Border Collie. Ours frightens unwanted callers without even putting a foot outside the door and he hears noises that we don't.

things like gravel on the drive, spikes on fences, draw your curtains, talk to neighbours ask them to help look out for people too

Contact the police for advice on home security and set up a neigbourhood watch scheme in your area.
