As the weather is going to be sunny this weekend can anyone suggest some things to pop in a picnic basket and trundle down to the river with, what would you take? It will just be myself and my boyfriend, wanting a relaxed afternoon in the sun, with the sunday papers and a glass or 2 of wine...

Any ideas would be excellent..

Scotch eggs are the ultimate picnic food.

Strawberries!

I am going strawberry picking tomorrow and picnic Sunday with the strawbs I picked!

As an alternative to Scotch eggs (if you want to go really upmarket) there's a Jamie Oliver recipe for a picnic loaf thing. You make a bread dough, roll it into a long flat sausage, add Parma ham, basil, sun-dried tomatoes, hard-boiled eggs, and a load of cheese. Then you fold the sides up and then twist it around, so it's like a big doughnut, and bung it in the oven. It sounds like a lot of work, but I've made it before (so can't be that hard) and it was really nice. Unfortunately, the recipe doesn't seem to be on his website and I can't remember which book it's in!

Lots and lots of strawberries.

Freeze a couple of bottles of water to keep everything cold - bung it all in a disposable container, do the same with the food, and then you don't have to lug anything back with you!
