Paint worktops

Our kitcjen is looking a bit tired, but we can't really afford to have the whole kitchen replaced. I thought I would paint the cabinet doors, but is it also possible to paint the worktops?

I wouldnn't paint worktops - they take a lot of abuse with hot pans, cleaning agents and so on.

Replacing the worktops need not be expensive - have a look at the prices in your local merchants. Even the cheapest will look a lot better than old, tired ones.

I have seen very attractive worktops made from a mosaic of tiles which had been got very cheaply (mostly free) from the tile shop who was getting rid of broken/ex-display tiles.

The grout and adhesive can add up alarmingly though.

You can get new worktop for �25 for 3 metres at B&Q, and it's easy to cut though corners can be tricky. International Paints may have something suitable that will "take" on the laminate but the paint itself will have a cost.

You might get an acceptable result if you paint it with a two pack epoxy enamel paint, this is the kind of stuff that is put on warehouse floors and stands up to forklift trucks running on it and is resistent to nearly all solvents etc...
