Reports say Thames Water is loosing bucket loads of water in leaks. But doesn't most of London's water come from bore-holes, therefore isn't the the water eventualy going to end up back where it came from?
So aren't they only loosing the bit of water that evaporates b4 soaking into the ground and of course also the energy used to get it out of the bore-hole and in making it ready to drink?

I'd say you're pretty much bang on there.

Obvious exception if you're closer to the coast than any extraction point .

I've not been able to find out how much electricity is used to purify and pump the water but I bet it's not small
