How do you get lettering off the back of a footy shirt?

Does anyone know any way of getting lettering off the back of a footy shirt? My son got one with his name on the back but it's too small and wants to give it to his cousin but she obviously doesnt want his name on the back of it....Seems a shame to waste if no-one can wear it.

Problem is, it's designed to not come off. I'm assuming it's heat activated glue ont the lettering, which, as far as i am aware, will not come off using anythinig that won't also wreck the shirt.

as bob says really, so you might be best trying to cover it.

cut out or buy some white lettering of the cousins name and sew them onto a piece of material that is the same colour as the shirt, then sew it over the other name.
