i have an old clematis in my front garden which i have cut down at least twice and its sprouted out again. i have even given it a dose of weed killer and yet it still comes up, so this year i have decided to give it a chance and have dug it up and put it in a pot ,it has got one shoot on it about 3inces long but is now looking a bit shall we say sick ,what do you reacon on its chances any tips from any greenfingers out there ,thanks
Hi tinkertotom,
Well I think maybe the weed killer you gave it may have finally done what you intended it to do in the first place.
If you used a systemic weed killer then I think its doing its job and slowly working its way through the plants system, woody plants would normally take longer.
Maybe its time to start again with a fresh plant ? Good Luck.
Well, I think if I'd been given a severe dose of weedkiller I'd be looking decidedly sickly too.! Apart from keeping it well watered and keeping its roots sheltered from the scorching sun there's probably little you can do to heal it if you have planted it in good compost. As Thunderbird suggests, it probably needs a Requiem Mass but if you're feeling guilty about it, give it a few more weeks and let nature take its chance.
