Steak and storage
1 Answers
What is the best way of storing rump seak in the fridge when it is thawed from the frezzer in the fridge a night before or fresh? I have often seen steak in my tesco local in the refridgeration unit but directly under the (warm) light which has turned it quite grey/off colour, why does this happen ( I suspect it has something to do with oxygen?)
Anyway I now have a proper fridge instead of a mini fridge and bought some fresh pink steak from my local buthcer. I wanted to use it over the course of 3 days on y BBQ so stored in an ex plastic chinese container, withe lid) in my fridge. After only 6 hours it became 50% discoloured so I decied to cook the lot which annoyed my greatly.
Other questions (in addtion to the one I asked at the top???) - How long can fresh or dethawed rump steak be kept in the firdge? What is the best way of storing it in a fridge? (on a plate, plate with glad warp on top, plate with paper towel over the top? Wrapped inside a tea towel? Who knows? Please tell me? Is it safe to cook and eat rump steak when is turning discoloured after being pink? When is it not safe anymore? Finally, is it safe to eat the next day after cooking? What about eating KFC Chicken the day after (please answer my steak questions first, the KFC is only a nice to know). Thanks

They have special light in supermarket meat cabinets to make the meat look pink and attractive.Plus the plastic they wrap it in can react to make the meat a funny colour.
Always store fresh meat in the bottom part of the fridge to prevent any blood dripping onto other food.I wouldn't store it in a plastic container ..just on a plate loosely covered with tin foil or another plate upended.
A good cut of steak should be O.K for a couple of days from fresh ..if it has been frozen then I would eat it as soon as possible.
You can eat steak the next day cold if you wish !
As for KFC ..can't help you I'm afraid ..something I have never eaten and could never imagine wanting to eat !.
