why does m y clematis die off at the top and back to the stem. cheers ken

Hello Ken. Clematis are tricky to get started and often the top growth dies off in the first year, but next year it shoots from the base and is fine. However if it is just the top turning brown & dying, then probably the wind has got to it and snapped it at a joint.
