If the bumps are not too sharp ie ant or mole hills, I would recomend a hover mower. Its light enough to get in and out of the shed easily and virtually weightless when it starts to hover.
I also recommend a hover mower, its easier when you've got bumps and lumps all over the lawn - ours is all uneven and slightly sloping too! the hover (ours is a flymo) is really good.
Take answer 1 ...DO NOT buy a hover mower ...you'll be disappointed
I think it also depends on the size of your garden. I've got quite a big garden which is also very uneven and originally had a hover mower (as it was given to me) but it was really hard, backbreaking work and when it packed up I bought one on wheels, it was sooo much easier. ☺

Thanks everyone for the advice. I've just bought a Bosch with metal blade and adjustable height for bumpy or long grass ! says 7.0 kg on the box - I'm going to test drive later on today , although it does look like you need an 'A' level to put the thing together !
