I was delighted to see some buds and one or two of the flowers appeared - beautiful. But now the flowers have closed - is this normal? Will they bloom again.

Is it in a greenhouse? They usually flower continually throughout the summer, but the flowers only last a day or two, then close, turn yellow, shrivel and drop.
After a couple of years it will be so rampant you'll be sorry you've got the dam thing! Seriously, lovely plant, but needs severe pruning. You should also get a lot of inedible fruit too, that look like small yellow plums.
