Primer paint for walls

I have used primer paint on a ceiling and I cannot now take off the paint from brushes and my sink. I have tried with white spirit but no joy. Does anyone know how to get rid of this horrible solvent based paint??

Have you tried any of the 'off the shelf' brush cleaners? If not, most paint tins have recommended cleaning methods in the instructions - does it mention anything there?
