Do i need my neighbours permission to put up a fence in my back garden if i ensure that is within my boundary? We live in a mid terrace house and at present there is only a low wall on either side between us and our neighbours. Both sides of neighbours like the "sociable" openess of it but we would like more privacy. The property is Victorian and therfore also has rear right of way access. As long as we put in a gate so that the neighbours can use the access will there be any legal problems?
you can go on the land registry website and download the plans for about 2.00 this will tell you what is classed as your land. If it isn't you need permission from your neighbour and maybe they will pay half.
No you don't, but you should ensure that it's safe and suitable for containing any dogs etc you may have. There are also legal limits on height, but I don't know what they are.
You should also be careful if you're in a conservation area.
Not sure about the gate. It could be worth having a word with the council's planning department.
