A friend of mine has a light cream leather sofa which had got grubby.

She cleaned some of it it with some washing up liquid and warm water but rubbed it. She has been left with a discoloured section which has almost 'bobbled' up.

Any ideas what she can do? Thanks!

Hello again Crete - thanks for the answer!!
hello worth a try
Leather needs 'feeding' and to be moisturised so by using washing up liquid, your friend has robbed the leather of moisture. She should use a leather conditioner to try to restore the moisture. However, the leather could be of the type that is coated in plastic sealant (many of the cheaper leather sofas have this) so it could be this sealant that has been damaged and is bobbling.
If a new leather chair is in a spare room and hardly used, does it still need conditioner? It's not in the direct sun.

if it won't go, she could always dye the whole thing to match the stain or a darker colour to cover it - as a last resort
By the way, the best thing to clean dirty marks off a pale leather sofa is with dove soap or equivalent
Hi, you say Dove or equivelent.....if I bought Dove bath stuff....would this work better[ instead of using Fairy for example]for an all over clean? Would the moisturising one be better....lol....sorry honest question.

I meant Dove soap (the bar) or tesco version of the Dove soap bar - I wouldnt try the bath stuff though. i was told this by someone who works in a leather furniture shop - rub a bit of dove soap onto a soft white cloth and rub gently over the stain.

This worked on ours to remove marks left by dark jeans and black boots on the cream furniture
