I have a grey squirrel that has eaten most of my apricots off a tree, and leaves only the shell of the seeed pod on the ground, broken and with thes inside gone. Does anyone know how to catch it. I am also putting this on A&N.
my grandad catches the squirrels in his garden because they eat the seeds for the birds, he made a trap one that you put a nut in just a metal rectangular cage and when they go in the metal door falls down, he just drives them to the country and realises them, i think in the last yr he's caught about 100!
The animal feed store/country store I work in sell traps which work for grey squirrels. The problem is that if you trap one you then have to kill it as it is illegal to release into the wild a non-native animal.
i've just come back from centreparcs in penrith which is a red squirrel sanctuary. The ranger there said all grey squirrels should be killed as they carry a disease that the red ones can't handle and they die within a fortnight.. I'm sure he said there was a number to ring if you see one. I think they need to know how many there are in the uk now. The forestry commision or wildlife trust would probably give you some adice.
Thanks for the quick response I'm no ogre, I have no intention of being cruel to the animal whatsoever. Obviously I will have to do something, it has cleared all apricots except a handful so it has to go one way6 or the other.
Cheers yesmadam, unfortunately this is in a front garden area and netting is not possible ! Local Council pest control officer is due anytime Thanks Hard@it
