fan assisted plinth radiator
4 Answers
Has anyone got any experience of fan assisted plinth radiators? I have a very cold kitchen and was told to get one of these installed as we already have the pipework under the plinth.
What is this and how does it work? Does it run off the radiator system or is it electric? Does the fan elememt mean that the cost of running this is expensive? Help!

They are compact in design ( to enable installation under units ), similar in appearance to car engine radiators. The fan blows the warm air through the fins into the kitchen.
They are also designed to fit above the kitchen door if no other room is available in the kitchen.
As with normal radiators they are designed with various heat outputs, so have your heating engineer work out your heat requirements for the kitchen.
Hope this helps.

The Plinth rediators are more efficent than a convectional rediator as they are assissted by a fan which helps with the heat transfer! i.e you would need to keep your central heating on for two hours just so it heats your kitchen up but with a plinth rediator you would only need it on for an hour to achieve the same temperature within the room and building fabaric temp. P.S if you find a cheap one let me know because the cheapest i've found is 280
Done this - turned out very expensive cos' you've got plumbing and wiring costs- cost of running fan not significant as most of the energy is heat from your heating system.
Their control switches off the flow when the difference between between flow and return temperature falls - but that might not be soon enough and they sayyou should add a separate room thermostat. Alll gets a bit complicated but we have no regrets as we had no room for a conventional radiator
