Whilst decorating the 0other day some spots of emulsion now dried got on the carpet, any ideas how to get them off

Oh dear! Oh dear, oh dear! Common household problem. I guess anything solventy is going to affect the carpet. The only thing that springs to mind is steaming and scraping. Not many paints will withstand hot steam, but wool will. Let us know!
Get some coarse sandpaper & rub it gently in all directions. This should work...it has for me. I'm a deccy, & have used this method many many times.
I've got them off by waiting until they are bone-dry and scraping gently with a razor blade or very sharp knife being careful not to cut into the carpet pile.
you can also use a wet razor to gently scrape off the paint and in fact works also for taking burns/singes out of carpet too. just be careful to stop as soon as the paint is gone so as not to start cutting the pile.
