Elegant Curtains
2 Answers
I want to hang a floor length red curtain in the dining room and I want to give it quite a dramatic effect. With the way the window is situated (i.e. in the corner of the room) I was thinking of having the curtain only on one side to pull across the window.
The thing is, I've never tackled this before so have no idea where to start! Can anyone suggest an easy, permanent but beautiful look for my dining room window?

Hang this very full (2.5 times width of window) on a strong brass pole with heavy looking finial(s). To take up your idea of the curtain hanging to one side only, try placing a tie-back hook approx 3/4 of the way up on one side and a curtain ring on the back of the opposite bottom corner. When you want light simply hook the curtain ring on to the tie back hook for a very effective draped look. To give it a flourish you could also reverse the cream/gold lining at the top to create a pelmet.
I have a window that's right up against a corner, too. I positioned the curtain rod so that the finial just fit, even though this meant the curtain didn't go all the way to the wall. If you use pull-drapes, there is no finial on the rod, so that won't be a problem. Or just go with one finial on the end that isn't in the corner, and be bold with your asymmetrical arrangement!
