Smoking tv

My tv suddenly started smoking from the back, with this awful stench today.. Its a second hand one. Anyone with tv repair knowledge on here, who shed light on what the problem may be. And is it worth getting repaired.

Can't tell you the problem, but getting it repaired really depends on how old it is I suppose. Personally, with a second hand one, I wouldn't bother.

well done Minxie sounds exactly like something I would do. either that or get a long bit of wood with a rubber tip thing to turn the damn thing off.

I am such a chicken when it comes to electricity.

Sounds dangerous to me if it's smoking.. I wouldn't risk getting it repaired. Not worth risking a potential house fire.

By the way, do you have smoke alarms fitted in your house?
If not, don't delay in getting them installed. You've now had a taster of what could have ended up as a scary experience, especially if neither of your were in the room when the smoking started .

I've experienced this with an old TV. The TV got really hot and the dust that had settled through the gaps was starting to burn off the wires and electrics inside the TV which created the wisps of smoke and smell.

I'm assuming you had the TV at the time though!
